circa 1878, with octagonal 30in. nitro reproved barrel marked on the top-flat 'OLD RELIABLE' within a rectangular clipped-corner borderline panel and 'SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN', folding bead and ring fore-sight, elevating ladder rearsight with graduations to 700yds, the base-plate marked 'R.S. LAWRENCE PATENTED FEB 15TH 1859', vertically mounted dropping breech operated by an under-lever forming the trigger guard bow, the action body marked 'SHARPS RIFLE CO PAT APR. 6 1869' and fitted with a Lyman-style short based adjustable peep-sight to the top-tang, plain side-mounted lock with external hammer, walnut straight-hand butt-stock reinforced with a side-nail behind the wrist and fitted with a semi crescent iron heel-plate, double set triggers and splinter fore-end with schnabel tip
